The BMW Open in Munich takes place between April 26 - May 2, gathering solid field of players who will try to shape their game ahead of the season's third Masters 1000 event in Madrid.
The International Tennis Championships of Bavaria started way back in 1900 in Munich. The Bavarian capital has been on the tennis map ever since, moving the event to the Iphitos Tennis Club in 1974. Guillermo Vilas, Manuel Orantes, Ivan Lendl, Michael Stich, Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko, Tommy Haas and Andy Murray are all on the list of champions, with
Alexander Zverev keeping the honor in the last two editions as the first back-to-back champion in almost two decades.
Hubert Hurkacz, Jannik Sinner and Daniel Evans have all withdrawn from Munich, leaving Alexander Zverev and
Casper Ruud as the top favorites to battle in the final. After an early Monte Carlo exit and a minor injury, Zverev will try to secure the third straight home title, facing a qualifier or Maximilian Marterer in the second round.
Dusan Lajovic should be his quarter-final rival, and the winner of that one plays against
Filip Krajinovic, Jan-Lennard Struff or Yannick Hanfmann in the semis. Nikoloz Basilashvili, Sebastian Korda and
Aslan Karatsev are in the third quarter, followed by John Millman, Alexei Popyrin, Pablo Cuevas and the second seed Casper Ruud, who lead the bottom quarter.
