After staying away from the European Majors in 2020,
Roger Federer returns to
Roland Garros and
Wimbledon in June and July, seeking the 21st Major crown.
The Swiss was the semi-finalist in Paris two years ago, losing to Rafael Nadal and reaching the Wimbledon final, where he wasted two match points against Novak Djokovic in an epic battle.
Speaking about his chances at this year's events after such a long break. a former world no. 5 Jimmy Arias is still confident in Roger's abilities to embrace deep runs at both Major tournaments and fight for the trophies, especially at the All England Club.
"I'm sure if things start going well at Roland Garros and he's making a little run, then he's not gonna just be thinking about Wimbledon. Obviously, he's gonna want to win any Major that he can, and he probably still is the third or fourth best player on clay right now, so why not? If things open up for him, why not? I would put Stefanos Tsitsipas out there with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic among the Roland Garros favorites.
I'm leaving Dominic Thiem out for the moment until I see him playing in Madrid and Rome. Roger is undoubtedly in the mix, and you can't count him out at any time. I expect him to be one of two or three favorites again at Wimbledon, no question about it.
If he's moving as well as he has been moving - I haven't seen, I didn't see his matches in Doha - but he moved so well the last time I saw him play. If he continues to move that well, he still has the better game for grass than pretty much anybody," Jimmy Arias said.
