The 2023 Australian Open is only a few days away, and several tennis superstars are aware of their fate as the first Grand Slam of the year kicks off in Melbourne on January 16, 2023.
With the draw now set, participants have a few days to begin scouting their opponents in the event of a possible showdown. Although upsets could change a player's path to the final, the top seeds have to face the possibility of clashing in the quarterfinals.
A highly anticipated projected quarterfinal will feature defending champion Rafael Nadal take on the man he defeated for the title in 2022, Russian Daniil Medvedev. The Spaniard battled from a two set-to-love deficit in one of his most emotional victories, as he captured his 21st Grand Slam title. Medvedev will be looking for revenge, and is likely savoring the idea of meeting his conqueror in the quarterfinals.
Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas could face Felix Auger-Aliassime in another quarterfinal, with the Canadian winning three consecutive titles at the end of last season to pole-vault into the Top 10.
Nine-time champion Novak Djokovic will get to compete in Melbourne following his unfortunate deportation last year, and could face the always-dangerous Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. The Russian has one win over the Serbian in three meetings, and could see this as an opportunity to announce his intentions as a serious contender.
The final quarterfinal could see top-ranked American Taylor Fritz take on former World No.2 Casper Ruud, with the Norwegian hoping to reach yet another Grand slam final. After falling at the last stage at the French Open and US Open last year, Ruud is looking to reach another final and finally claim his maiden Major title.
