2023 French Open Roland Garros Day Two Schedule/Preview including Djokovic, Alcaraz, Garcia, Norrie, Bencic, Kvitova and Svitolina

Day Two is incoming at the 2023 French Open with the clay courts at Roland Garros welcoming two-time champion Novak Djokovic and heir to the throne of Rafael Nadal in a lot of people's minds in Carlos Alcaraz.

Also flanked by the likes of Karolina Pliskova, Jannik Sinner and Caroline Garcia on the show court, with Cameron Norrie, Petra Kvitova, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Elina Svitolina all starting their campaigns too.

As are Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka but both are on outside courts which considering their respective records at Roland Garros is a tad surprising.

Matches to watch

Novak Djokovic v Aleksander Kovacevic

From USA by Belgrade, Aleksandar Kovacevic will face the ultimate task on his French Open debut when he faces the two-time champion Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic will aim to seal the Grand Slam record in the absence of Rafael Nadal albeit having not been in the best form in the lead up.

Losing to Holger Rune in Rome after missing Madrid, he also has suffered as of late with an elbow injury which he has since refuted is bothering him.

But will Kovacevic be over awed by a player who he has said is his idol. In terms of head to head of course they have never played but will be a good gauge as to where Djokovic is at in his first task in Paris.

Caroline Garcia v Xiyu Wang

Another match to watch also comes on Court Phillippe Chatrier with home hope Caroline Garcia in action on the WTA side of the draw.

After a whirlwind 12 months including winning the WTA Finals, it has not been easy to back up for Garcia.

Especially since sacking coach Bertrand Perret but they are back together and she will hope to anchor home hopes on Monday afternoon at around 15 local time. Same as Djokovic in no head to head between her and Xiyu Wang.

Carlos Alcaraz v Flavio Cobolli

As per the scheduling being heavy weighted towards the French players instead of the big names, Carlos Alcaraz will start his campaign on Court Suzanne Lenglen instead of Chatrier.

First up is Flavio Cobolli who has reached a Grand Slam for the first time. He has also made a maiden Quarter-FInal on the ATP tour at the BMW Open so could be a tricky start for Alcaraz.

Especially given the pressure imparted due to Rafael Nadal's absence. They have one recorded meeting three years ago in a Challenger Qualifier which was taken by Alcaraz in straight sets.

Kvitova, Svitolina, Fils and Auger-Aliassime all in action

On Lenglen, Cameron Norrie will begin proceedings against Benoit Paire in a home hope clash, Belinda Bencic and Petra Kvitova are between the Alcaraz tie.

Elina Svitolina faces an intriguing tie after her return to title winning form in Strasbourg. She faces Martina Trevisan, a clay court specialist in what is bound to be a superb tiee.

Arthur FIls also faces Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Fils was winner in Lyon and is one of the underrated clashes of the opening round.

Frances Tiafoe, Jelena Ostapenko, Dominic Thiem, Jack Draper, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Stan Wawrinka and Beatriz Haddad-Maia are also among the top names on the outside courts.
