2023 Mallorca Championships Preview with Tsitsipas, Shelton and Davidovich Fokina in action

The Mallorca Championships begins with initial round one games on Sunday 25 June and TennisUpToDate is here to preview the final grass court tournament before Wimbledon which concludes on 1st July.
Initially Nick Kyrgios was one of the leading lights in the field in Spain, but despite making the trip initially, he has withdrawn putting his Wimbledon in doubt.
Tsitsipas, Davidovich Fokina and Shelton lead field
But while Kyrgios and also Felix Auger-Aliassime who initially got a wildcard from his coach, Toni Nadal who is tournament director are not involved, it is still full of star players.
In particular, Stefanos Tsitsipas who is the defending champion in Mallorca. After taking a week to practice at Wimbledon with girlfriend, Paula Badosa, he will head to her homeland.
Tsitsipas will face either Yannick Hanfmann or Pedro Cachin, while second seed is Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Both him and Bernabe Zapata Mirallas will face either a qualifier or lucky loser. Ben Shelton is third seed, he will potentially face compatriot Christopher Eubanks.
While Halle Open champion, Alexander Bublik is currently slated to play in Mallorca and will face Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the opening round.
Feliciano Lopez is also involved and could face fellow veteran, Richard Gasquet in the second round. Adrian Mannarino is the fourth seed.
It forms part of the same week as Bad Homburg and Eastbourne on the WTA and the latter on the ATP.
Many of the top names in particular on the ATP side have decided against playing this week likely due to playing previous weeks and potential injuries ahead of Wimbledon.
With the final of Mallorca being next weekend and Wimbledon starting the following week, the preparation time albeit match practice will be there but will be minimal.
