Alexander Bublik has finally claimed a maiden grass court title after two previous attempts both in Newport with victory at the
Halle Open over Andrey Rublev 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Bublik took down home hero Alexander Zverev to reach the final and also snatched away Rublev's chance of taking a record that even the big three don't have.
That being an ATP 500 won on every surface but instead, it is joy for the entertaining Kazakh who claims the biggest title of his career.
He will now move up to a career high 27th after sitting 33rd earlier this weekend. But as ever with players like Bublik, his Wimbledon chances are not set in stone.
Similar to the likes of Benoit Paire, it depends on the attitude of Bublik but hopefully his confidence will be spurred on by this.
He showed no signs of nerves though in taking down Rublev, particularly in the opening set with an impressive shotmaking display that delighted the crowd in attendance.
It is a second ATP Tour title for Bublik who has won on the indoor hard courts of Montpellier last year and in his run this week, he also saw off Borna Coric and Jannik Sinner as well as Zverev.
