The 2024
Hall of Fame Newport is set to take place between July 15-21 and will be the
last grass-court tournament at the Tour level. With the end of Wimbledon, some
players quickly traveled to the US to conclude the grass swing before
transitioning to hard courts.
The main draw is led by
Adrian Mannarino as the
top seed, along with a legion of local players, including
Marcos Giron,
Christopher Eubanks, and
Alex Michelsen among the most notable, as well as the
return of former World No. 17
Reilly Opelka.
Mannarino leads the Field as Defending Champion
The
defending champion is Adrian Mannarino, the first seed who will have a bye in
the first round. Unlike 2023, the Frenchman did not have a fruitful grass
swing, registering just one win in the first round of the Libema Open, followed
by four consecutive losses on grass courts.
Mannarino
has dropped some positions in the rankings, and failing to defend his title
could see him fall out of the top 30 after more than a year. He will debut in
the second round against the winner of the match between Reilly Opelka
(wildcard) and Constant Lestienne.
Opelka is
making his return to the courts after long injuries to his hip and wrist. The
26-year-old American will compete again in the Newport tournament, more than
half a year after his last match at the Charlottesville Challenger.
Local favorites aim for success
Four of the
top five seeds are local players arriving with clear ambitions to a tournament
with a wide-open draw. Last year's finalist Alex Michelsen will be the third
seed and could face Mannarino in a potential semifinal, repeating last year's
final.
Marcos
Giron (2nd) and Christopher Eubanks (4th) are the main seeds in the bottom half
of the draw and are the American favorites to reach a potential final. However,
other players to consider include young Czech
Jakub Mensik and former Next Gen
ATP Finals champion
Brandon Nakashima.
