Britain’s tennis star
Andy Murray was left frustrated after
VAR stopped working during his
US Open 2023 opener.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is underway
where players from all over the world are showcasing their talent to claim the
ultimate glory.
Murray came out on top in his tournament opener against
France’s Corentin Moutet in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 on
Tuesday.
However, that match was disrupted because of malfunctioning
of the VAR technology, something which did not please the former world number
one who expressed harsh words about the incident while talking to BBC.
"It took about four minutes to make a decision,"
said Murray. "I'm pro-using technology to get to the right calls - but
you've got to have it working. When it goes like that, it turns into a bit of a
farce."
Despite the controversy, Murray will be extremely pleased
with his performance and will be hoping to keep the winning momentum going and
get the ultimate prize.
The Glasgow-born won the US Open back in 2012 when he
defeated the current world number two Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the final with
a score of 7–6(12–10), 7–5, 2–6,
3–6, 6–2.
He is now set to face off against Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the
round of 64 clash of the mega-event on Thursday.
