Following a serious on-court injury scare this weekend, tennis star
Gael Monfils has allayed fans fears after revealing he is unlikely to miss much time due to the unfortunate event.
Monfils was a participant at last weekend's
Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final event in London, but suffered an ankle injury against Britain's
Jack Draper. During a rally from the baseline, Monfils twisted his right foot badly after executing a forehand. Although he attempted to continue the match, he was forced to retire a few minutes later.
Injury less severe than it seems, according to Monfils
Despite appearing to be in serious pain at the time, the Frenchman revealed the injury was not as serious as he initially feared. Furthermore, he added he would likely not have to miss much time and hoped to be back on the court after a few days of rest.
"A few days of rest and everything will be fine," disclosed Monfils after the match. "I will still have to do a follow-up MRI. It's always annoying when you get injured in a tournament and don't have the chance to be able to play again right away. I have a first degree sprain, I'm taking anti-inflammatories. I put a lot of ice, I did acupuncture. I don't think it's too serious, a few days of rest and we'll be fine."
