Rafael Nadal will play later today in the singles of the 2024
Olympic Games thus meaning that his potential tie against Novak Djokovic is still very much on the cards if he can get past Marton Fucsovics on Sunday afternoon.
Nadal is due to play around 2pm in the afternoon local time on Court Phillippe Chatrier against the Hungarian after priorly casting doubts going back as pre tournament about whether he would play singles.
First he was dealing with physical issues which made it a mission for him to play with coach Carlos Moya who is accompanying him this week saying that he wasn't sure if he would play singles and that it was in doubt.
Also the scheduling of the Olympic Games to put Nadal in prime slot also didn't help their cause in having their biggest name involved in the tournament today. He hit out at tournament chiefs for keeping him playing until 10pm when he has to play the following day at 2.
He also said that as a result he wasn't sure if he would play in singles as a result. But he had until 11:30am to withdraw from the singles and he didn't put in a request to withdraw. He was also seen practicing this morning so seems good to go. So the dream remains alive.
"A 2pm game? I don’t understand the schedule. It seems outrageous to me when I’m playing at 2pm," he said yesterday.
"I don’t know if I’ll play tomorrow," he added. "I’ll have to go back to the village and talk to the team, I’ll make the decision that I think is most appropriate to have a chance of getting results for Spain. Sometimes less is more.”
It seems like though that him and his team have decided to take the plunge though into playing singles after all so fans of Nadal will get their hero this afternoon.
