Andy Murray sent a heartwarming message to one of his greatest rivals throughout his career,
Novak Djokovic. The Brit will play his final event as a professional at the
Olympic Games and thanked Nole for the 25 years of rivalry they have shared since their junior days.
Their last encounter was in the final of the 2017 Doha Open, where Nole claimed the title. Djokovic leads the head-to-head by 25-11, with 19 of those matches being finals, where Djokovic holds an 11-8 advantage. They have also faced each other in seven Grand Slam finals, with the Serbian winning five of those matches.
Murray posted several photos with Djokovic spanning their 25-year rivalry. Now, at Paris 2024, both posed together at Sir Andy’s farewell tournament. Unfortunately, Murray has not fully recovered physically and opted to withdraw from the singles draw to focus on doubles alongside Dan Evans. The British duo will face Japan’s Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori in the first round.
Meanwhile, Djokovic is focused on the singles, where he successfully debuted against Matthew Ebden with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. He awaits a possible second-round clash with Rafael Nadal, although the Spaniard must first overcome Marton Fucsovics in the first round.
