Spain’s tennis star
Rafael Nadal has raised eyebrows about
his comment regarding a potential clash with Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic at Paris Olympics. The 2024 edition of the mega-event began on
Friday officially where athletes from all over the world are participating to
secure the ultimate glory for their respective countries.
Nadal, who is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era in the singles category, is currently participating in the mega-event in the singles and doubles categories. In the singles category, Nadal is set to face Hungary’s Márton Fucsovics in the first-round clash on Sunday.
If the former world number one wins the clash on Sunday, he will set up a mouthwatering tie against Serbia’s legendary tennis star, Novak Djokovic, in the second round. Nadal was recently questioned in a press talk during the Olympics whether he is ready for a last dance against the former world number one, to which he gave an interesting response.
"Are you ready for the last dance with Djokovic? Are
you ready for it?” a journalist asked Nadal. "Who says [it's the] last dance?” he responded before walking away. Those comments will give Nadal fans a lot of hope despite the Spaniard already announcing that the 2024 season would be his last at the highest level. The 37-year-old has struggled with fitness concerns in the recent past, and it was because of this that he missed the majority of the 2023 season as well.
On the other hand, Djokovic is regarded as the greatest
player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24
Grand Slam titles. If the two will meet in the second round at Wimbledon, it
will be their 60th meeting in professional tennis. In the previous
59 meetings, Djokovic has a slight edge with 30 wins and 29 defeats.
