Germany’s tennis star
Alexander Zverev has revealed that advice
from the world number one
Carlos Alcaraz helped him in getting the better of
Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev.
The 26-year-old managed to register his first win over the
current world number three during the round of 16 clash in the Cincinnati Open
(Western & Southern Open) with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Talking about the result after the match, Zverev revealed meeting
Alcaraz for golf helped him in achieving this result as he gave some notable
advice.
“Against him, playing slowly is not a bad tactic,” he said. “So
after golf with Carlos Alcaraz last week in Toronto, he gave me a very good
game plan against him actually. I asked him a few questions so that was quite
helpful. At the end of the day I did what I had to do. I kind of fought it out
and I’m happy to be sitting here as the winner.”
Zverev will be hoping to continue the winning run to ensure
maximum preparation ahead of the upcoming US Open.
The fourth and the final Grand Slam of the year is set to
begin in less than 15 days' time where players from all over the world will battle
for the ultimate glory.
Zverev will now face France’s Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinal
of the competition on Friday.
