Former Italian tennis player Andreas Seppi believes that current
world number one
Carlos Alcaraz and fellow Italian
Jannik Sinner are ‘one step
ahead’ of Denmark’s
Holger Rune.
The 20-year-old will face the number one seed Alcaraz in the
quarterfinal of the
Wimbledon 2023 on Wednesday.
Seppi, in a recent interview with Sportskeeda, stated that the number one
seed along with Sinner is one step ahead of Rune.
"Jannik (Sinner) has a very powerful game and he plays
close to the line and very fast,” he said. “Their head-to-head (Alcaraz vs.
Sinner) is 3-3. Jannik has the best chance of this new generation to put
Alcaraz under pressure. Jannik, in the end, has the speed and how he takes the
ball on the rise.
"I think physically he's still a little bit behind but
if you give him maybe another couple of years, he can surely win one or many I
would say. Alcaraz is already a complete player he's doing everything well,
moving well and so it's going to be interesting.
“I would say Alcaraz and Sinner, and this is just my view,
are one step ahead of (Holger) Rune. But maybe I'm wrong and Rune is going to
be the one who has the best results from the three.”
Rune has been very impressive in the third Grand Slam of the
year and will be extremely confident going into the next round.
The Gentofte-born outclassed Britain’s George Loffhagen in
the round of 128 with a score of 7-6, 6-3, 6-2. He then went on to register
another thumping win in the second round against Spain’s Roberto Carballés
Baena with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
In the third round, Rune showed a lot of character and came
back from 2-1 down to continue his journey in the competition with a score of 6-3,
4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.
In the round of 16,
the number six seed defeated Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov with a score of 3-6,
7-6, 7-6, 6-3.
