Alexander Zverev is the final player through to the Last 16 at the 2024
Australian Open after easing past American talent,
Alex Michelsen in straight sets.
Zverev was last up on Rod Laver Arena despite some controversy surrounding the game selection due to his upcoming abuse trial also the perceived better clash between Medvedev and Auger-Aliassime.
But like the Medvedev tie, Zverev had no problems in easing through somewhat unexpectedly given his toils with Lukas Klein in the last round. It finished 6-2, 7-6, 6-2 to Zverev who is the final player into the Last 16. Next up will be Cameron Norrie with the victor likely facing Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster Quarter-Final.
Amid all the noise though surrounding Zverev and his personal issues, he is letting his tennis do the talking and is through to the latter stages and given Alcaraz not being at his best, he could yet have at least a semi-final run.
While for Michelsen, it is the end of a superb run for the American who continues to show why he is one of the hottest talents in the tour and he is starting to back that up on a Grand Slam stage albeit in a losing effort to Zverev today.
