Alexander Zverev extends Europe's lead to 7-1 as he downs John Isner

Team Europe is adding to their lead with another win and this time it was Alexander Zverev who bested John Isner in a very dramatic and tight match 7-6(5) 6-7(6) 10-5.

A lovely match at the Laver Cup between John Isner and Alexander Zverev was played with the German ultimately prevailing. It was a very typical match between two exceptional servers where opportunities to break were scarce. Both players played rather well with the 2nd set delivering probably the best tennis we saw so far at the Laver Cup.

The first set was decided in a tiebreak after neither allowed a single break chance in the first 12 games. In the tiebreak Zverev was simply put better. Isner played a bit conservative and Zverev was able to punish that with some stellar returns and shotmaking. The result of this tiebreak would force Isner to make a dramatic change to his approach moving forward.

The 2nd set was also decided in a tiebreak but the whole set was played at a very high level by both players. Isner became hyper-aggressive attacking every time he could especially when Zverev missed the 1st serve. This set featured break points on both sides with some sensational holds by both. In tie tiebreak, Isner jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Zverev came back to make it 3-3.

At 6-6, Zverev had an easy play on the net but chose the wrong side and Isner was able to slam the ball back for a winner. He then closed it out with another ace. His serving was sensational in this tiebreak but he did not sustain it in the match tiebreak. That was won by Zverev 10-5 as the German completely outplayed Isner who over gambled a few times.
