One week after withdrawing from Montreal, Alexander Zverev has now pulled out of Cincinnati putting his US Open participation in doubt.
Alexander Zverev never claimed that he'll be ready for the US Open but he was always hopeful that he will be there. The German always reiterated his intention to fully recover and return only when he feels like he can compete for trophies.
In a recent interview Zverev admitted that he is back on the court pracitcing but he is being very careful about it as well:
"Of course, I moved very carefully, I haven't built up any pressure on my foot yet, but it's just good news that I really haven't had any pain at all - now we can move on. It's too early [to make a decision about the US Open], I played tennis for the first time now."
He did make a decision on the Cincinnati Masters withdrawing from it and it certainly wasn't easy. Zverev won the trophy there last year so he was quite excited at the prospect of trying to defend it. It's unclear whether he will return at the US Open with media reporting that the Davis Cup a couple of weeks after seems like more realistic.
