Alexander Zverev is the main miss when it comes to Germany's
Davis Cup Finals Group Stage line-up for September with the World No.4 likely not playing due to the proximity with the Laver Cup.
Taking place between the 20-22 September, 2024, Zverev will make his return to Laver Cup action on home soil in Berlin but unlike Carlos Alcaraz who will maintain a busy start to the autumn, the former has decided against it. Albeit it is more his absence than anything that has been confirmed either way.
Zverev has been in and out of the Davis Cup side over the years and has had illness and injury that has seen him not play as well as issues with the German federation. But he has been playing a lot more regularly as of late.
It has been an interesting week or so for Zverev. Since having an issue with his knee at Wimbledon which saw him visibly hampered against Taylor Fritz, he was seen as a doubt for the Olympic Games.
But will interestingly play in Hamburg this week despite that giving an injury update today. His Davis Cup participation is likely down to a busy schedule also with Olympic Games and US Hard Court swing back-to-back and also the Finals Groups for Germany are in Zhuhai, China.
"The knee is still painful. I am doing everything I can to be on the court on Tuesday. Today was the first time I was able to complete a decent two-hour training session. I still have a few limitations, but I'm doing everything to be 'ready'. Now it’s just about the pain and the limitations. If I no longer have them, I will play. That's out of the question."
"I still feel something, but I am confident that it will get better. Three days ago, I could barely walk. Now I can already train on the court. If it continues to develop like this, then I hope to successfully be on the court on Tuesday."
