Former world no. 1 and a Major champion Ana Ivanovic ended her career in 2016 after struggling with injuries, playing her last match at the US Open.
One of the most talented players of her generation made a professional debut at 15 in 2003 and spent 13 years on the Tour, battling for the most significant tennis titles and against all the rivals from the top.
Ana claimed 15 WTA titles, and the biggest one came at Roland Garros 2008 when she became a Major champion at 20. The Serb failed to repeat that success in the following years, keeping herself in the top-30 but deciding to wrap up her career at the end of 2016 and switch focus on family life.
In her recent podcast, Ana spoke about
Roger Federer and
Rafael Nadal, knowing them both well and sharing the Roland Garros crown with Rafa in 2008. Ana said they are both great champions but different persons.
"Your results on the court are essential, but that has to end at some point; that's why it is crucial to remain the right person. Both Roger and Rafa are lovely, but they are also very different. Rafa is introverted and shy; he doesn't speak much. Roger has dignity and takes care of every move. They are both great champions, writing history books with Novak Djokovic," Ana Ivanovic said.
