Russia’s tennis star
Andrey Rublev achieved a nice little
milestone with his recent heroics in the
Paris Masters.
The 26-year-old’s journey in the French capital finally came
to an end as he lost to Serbia’s legendary tennis star and world number one Novak
Djokovic in the semifinal with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-5.
That result was enough to help Rublev enter the category
of players who have won more than $20 million in prize money in their careers. The
list features some of the current superstars and legendary players of the past
like America’s Andy Roddick, Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras.
Rublev did enjoy impressive outings at the mega events in
2023. He played in the main draw of all four Grand Slams and managed to
qualify in the quarterfinal or beyond in three of those events.
The Moscow-born also went on to win two ATP titles this
year. His first title was the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte-Carlo in April
where he defeated Denmark’s Holger Rune in the final with a score of 5-7, 6-2,
7-5.
In July,
Rublev won the Nordea Open organised in the city of Bastad, Sweden by defeating
Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-0.
