Stefanos Tsitsipas is out of the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart getting beaten by
Andy Murray in straight sets 7-6(4) 6-3.
The Greek player played a well-balanced match in the opening set but he was simply outsmarted by Murray who played far more tennis on grass. Tsitsipas is quite unfamiliar to the surface and it was very evident in many different ways. Every time the rally developed, Tsitsipas was unsure what to do and it cost him in the most crucial moment.
He served well in the opening stages of the match mainly dominated on his own serve. His best chance to win the opening set came fairly late at 6-5 when he squandered a set point. Murray was slightly better in the tiebreak winning it 7-4 as Tsitsipas failed to win points except with his serve.
A similar story happened in the 2nd set as the Greek largely won points thanks to his serve. He did not find any solutions except that and Murray patiently waited for that one game where the serve did not function as well. It came midway through the set and he was able to break Tsitsipas for the 4-2 lead. He made it 5-2 with a comfortable service game.
Murray did not play a spectacular match but he simply knew what to do most of the time and his opponent did not. In the end Murray won the crucial rallies by being patient and it paid off.
