Former World No.1
Andy Murray will not require a wild card entry to this year's
US Open, as the Brit's record during the grass-court season has granted him direct qualification into the final Grand Slam of the year.
After undergoing several hip surgeries that saw the three-time Grand Slam champion drop in the ATP rankings, the 34-year old considered retirement due to ongoing pain and limited movement. However, Murray persevered and has returned to the ATP circuit in an active capacity.
The 46-time ATP titlist was particularly impressive during this year's grass-court season, accumulating a 4-2 record. With a round of 16 showing at Queen's Club and a third round appearance at
Wimbledon, Murray has accrued enough points to see his ranking rise to World No.104. Furthermore, he has garnered enough points to earn a direct entry into the main draw of the US Open, which will be held in New York from August 30-September 12, 2021.
Murray is currently competing at the
Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he is slated to face Canadian
Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round.
