The five-time Australian Open runner-up Andy Murray will compete in Melbourne for the 14th time, receiving the wild card for the upcoming first Major of the season at the Australian Open.
The three-time Major champion was one of the players to beat at the Australian Open between 2010-2016, reaching five title matches and losing them to Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, winning only four sets and never forcing a decider. Andy is currently ranked 122nd and will start the season at the Delray Beach Open from January 7, feeling confident following two Battle of the Brits triumphs in Roehampton over Daniel Evans and Cameron Norrie.
Murray played only seven matches in 2020, skipping all the action in January and February due to a pelvic injury and making a comeback in Cincinnati. Andy played on a high level against Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev to reach the third round, failing to match that pace in the remaining events and finishing the season with a 3-4 score.
Andy's last Australian Open match came in 2019 in that epic Roberto Bautista Agut clash that the Spaniard won in five thrilling sets. The Briton won three encounters in Melbourne in 2017, losing to Alexander Zverev in the fourth round and hoping for a good run next February, especially if he earns a good draw and avoids the favorites.
The Australian Open should gather all the world's leading players, including Roger Federer who is working on a comeback in Dubai.
