The three-time Major champion Andy Murray will not start the new year in Delray Beach, withdrawing from the season's opening ATP 250 event and joining Kei Nishikori and Daniel Evans on the absent list.
The good news is that Andy is not feeling physical issues, deciding to skip the USA trip due to covid-19 concerns and staying on the practice court ahead of the first Major of the season that starts in Melbourne on February 8. Following a positive end of the 2019 season that saw him winning the first ATP title since Dubai 2017, Andy suffered another pelvic injury at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid in November.
Andy Murray, Daniel Evans and Kei Nishikori have withdrawn from the Delray beach Open.
In August, the Briton returned to the court, beating Alexander Zverev in Cincinnati but scoring just three victories in the season behind us to finish outside the top-100 again. The five-time Australian Open runner-up earned a wild card for the upcoming Australian Open, seeking his first victory in Melbourne since 2017 when he lost to Zverev in the fourth round.
"Given the increase in COVID rates and the transatlantic flights involved, I want to minimize the risks ahead of the Australian Open. I'm really thankful for the understanding of the tournament and I look forward to playing there soon," Andy Murray said.
