Former world number one Britain’s
Andy Murray has expressed
optimism that he will return to
Wimbledon next year.
The 36-year-old has struggled with fitness concerns in his
career and it was because of this reason he ended up retiring in 2019 after the
Australian Open.
However, Murray made a sensational return to top-flight
tennis and still playing at the highest level.
The Glasgow-born, while talking to the
Times, stated optimism
that he will return to playing the Grand Slam in London but also admitted that his
body might not be able to recover from another serious injury.
“I don’t want to have played my last match at Wimbledon,” he
said. “I’m still planning on continuing. But you never know with my age.
Another injury could be the end. You can’t predict it."
Murray has an impressive record while playing at Wimbledon
where he won two out of the three Grand Slams.
First of his victory came in 2013 when he defeated the current
number two Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the final with a score of 6–4, 7–5, 6–4.
Three years later he once again lifted the title, this time
after getting the better of Canada’s Milos Raonic in the final with a score of 6–4,
7–6(7–3), 7–6(7–2).
