Stefanos Tsitsipas is on the verge of his first ATP title of the season at the Los Cabos Open in Mexico where he will face Alex de Minaur in the final.
Tsitsipas faced Borna Coric who didn't know he'd won the previous day and he didn't last long in the heat and humidity as the Greek sealed a 6-3, 6-2 win.
It has been a good week so far for the Greeks with Maria Sakkari into the semi-finals in Washington. Both in humid climates so dealing with them both well.
He wrapped up a 72-minute triumph at the ATP 250 tournament without facing a single break point throughout.
A break in the sixth game was enough early on for Tsitsipas to wrestle an advantage. He sealed the opening set and barely looked back in the second sealing 20 winners to Coric's seven.
“Once again, it’s joyful playing on this court,” said Tsitsipas in his on-court interview. “I made myself feel very comfortable today, I’m very happy with that. It’s not easy under these circumstances to reach that level of comfort and I’m really happy with the way things were put together.”
Next is De Minaur who he has beaten in all nine of the pair's previous meetings. But it is a 'brand new match' for Tsitsipas. The Aussie overcame Dominik Koepfer 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-1.
“It’s a brand new match for me,” said Tsitsipas. “He’s someone that has played a lot of matches this week, so he’s on a good run. So am I. I’m going to try and put up a fight out there and give it my best shot. Tomorrow is a big fight for me.”
After a month in which Tsitsipas has seen his off court affairs take the spotlight more than on court, he has let his racquet do the talking albeit for the first time without Paula Badosa by his side.
