The ATP Race to Turin has been updated
following the Canadian Open, with
Jannik Sinner still in the lead, closely
followed by
Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian fell in the quarterfinals in Montreal,
but it was enough for him to become the first player to qualify for the ATP
Finals.
With a 44-4 record this season, Sinner's
victory over Tabilo in the Round of 16 allowed him to reach 6,400 points,
mathematically securing his participation in the Finals for the third time in
his career and the second consecutive time.
Sinner Retains Top Spot
Players are in a crucial part of the season
during the hardcourt swing. After competing in the Canadian Open Masters 1000,
they quickly traveled to Cincinnati for the 7th Masters of the year and, for
most top players, the last tournament before the year's final Grand Slam at the
US Open.
Most of the season's major tournaments have
already been played, and the players' positions in the Race are becoming
increasingly important, both for a potential qualification for the Finals and
their year-end ranking.
In addition to the already qualified Sinner
with 6,410 points, Carlos Alcaraz remains less than 500 points behind (5,960),
and this week he could guarantee his spot in the Finals if he reaches the
final. The Spaniard, with two Grand Slam titles this season, is practically
guaranteed a spot in Turin, although he still needs to add a few points to make
it 100% certain.
There haven't been significant changes among
those following Sinner/Alcaraz. In third place is
Alexander Zverev, who, like
Sinner, fell in the quarterfinals in Montreal and now has 5,325 points. The top
5 is rounded out by
Daniil Medvedev (4,020 points) and Casper Ruud (3,595
points).

A bit further back is
Novak Djokovic (3,160),
whose main achievements are the Wimbledon final and semifinals in the
Australian Open and Monte-Carlo Masters. Despite winning the gold medal at the
Olympic Games, this didn't translate into points, and he still hasn't added any
titles at the Tour level. The Serbian also skipped the Canadian Open and
Cincinnati, and although he is on track to reach the Finals for the 17th time
in his career, he still needs to achieve good results in upcoming tournaments,
especially the US Open, the last Slam of the year.
One player who had a significant rise and is
once again in qualifying positions is Russia's
Andrey Rublev. He reached his
6th Masters 1000 final but couldn't secure the title, losing to Alexei Popyrin.
Nonetheless, the Russian advanced four positions and is now 7th in the Race,
just 70 points behind Djokovic. The last qualifier today would be Alex De
Minaur, who closes the top 8 with 2,905 points.
However, several players remain close to the
Finals qualifying spots, and achieving good results this week in Cincinnati or
later at the US Open could be crucial for changes in the top 8. Stefanos
Tsitsipas (2,685),
Taylor Fritz (2,590), and
Tommy Paul (2,535) are among the
main contenders.
