With the start of the grass-swing, there are no major changes in the
ATP Race to Turin compared to the standings after Roland Garros. Several top stars were not in competition during the first week of grass-court tournaments, so leaders
Carlos Alcaraz and
Jannik Sinner remain unassailable in the first and second positions of the Race.
Further back are
Alexander Zverev (3rd),
Jack Draper (No. 4), Lorenzo Musetti (No. 5), and Novak Djokovic (No. 6) – in a week where only the German was in competition. Djokovic currently holds a lead of over 500 points on 7th place. Looking ahead to potential ATP Finals qualification, the top 6 players appear to be in comfortable positions to achieve eventual qualification.
Several important commitments of the year still remain. Two out of four Grand Slam tournaments have been played, with Wimbledon next, followed by the US Open two months later. Additionally, five out of nine Masters 1000 tournaments have been completed, so there is still room for changes at the top of the Race – with just over half of the season already played.
Alcaraz - Sinner: A clear divide
As has been the trend for some time, Alcaraz and Sinner remain comfortably in the top two positions. Alcaraz holds a lead of nearly 1,800 points over second-placed Sinner – marking a difference from the ATP Rankings where Sinner is the leader. Remember that the Race only counts points earned in 2025 – unlike the rankings, which use the last 52 weeks.
If Alcaraz continues at this level, everything indicates that he will take the world No. 1 spot from Sinner sooner rather than later – especially if he manages to successfully defend his Wimbledon title. Nevertheless, the Italian will have a couple of chances in the coming weeks to close the gap with his rival. Alcaraz competes this week at Queen's Club and Sinner in Halle, so they won't face each other again until Wimbledon in two weeks.
Advantageous positions
Germany's Alexander Zverev holds the third position with relative ease and a good lead over 4th placed Jack Draper. Zverev consistently accumulates points throughout the year, and he recently reached the final of the Stuttgart Open – which earned him some points in a week where no other player from the Race's top 8 had been in competition.
Further back is Jack Draper – competing again this week at Queen's Club, which he can use to gain points that give him a slightly clearer advantage over his pursuers. Lorenzo Musetti and Novak Djokovic – who are not competing this week – are less than 100 points behind Draper. This means that one more win or one less at Wimbledon will make a difference.
The final qualification spots: a tight race
The top 6 players increasingly appear to be strong candidates to qualify for the ATP Finals, although much remains to be seen. However, it is the 7th and 8th spots that seem most open, with several candidates vying for potential qualification. Casper Ruud (7th) and Tommy Paul (8th) would potentially be qualified if the Race ended today.
However, their lead over the players behind them is slim, and neither Ruud nor Paul are playing tournaments this week. Alex De Minaur,
Ben Shelton, Holger Rune, and Jakub Mensik only need a couple of victories this week to claim a qualification spot. Similarly, Francisco Cerundolo, Andrey Rublev, and Félix Auger-Aliassime will have chances to enter the qualification zone, should they reach a potential final (or why not, win the title) this week in Halle.
