The BMW Munich Open has been upgraded from an ATP 250 to an ATP 500 tournament for 2025. As a result, there will be more ATP ranking points, more prize money and therefore more stars on the court in the coming season.
As the reports, world number one Jannik Sinner, among others, is expected to take part. This means a prestigious premiere for the Munich tournament. Sinner had an outstanding 2024 season in which he added two Grand Slam tournaments and the ATP Finals to his palmares. "I'm delighted to be playing in Munich for the first time," said Sinner, who will be the very first world number one to compete in the tournament.
The new world number four, Taylor Fritz, will also be back in Munich. The American also had a really good 2024 and will be hoping to make up for this year's defeat in the final against Jan-Lennard Struff.
German number one and world number two Alexander Zverev will also be on court in Munich: "I can't wait to see the German fans again and I'm really looking forward to coming back to Munich for the first 500 edition. It will be an exciting new chapter," said Zverev, who already won the tournament title in 2017 and 2018.
Zverev had a good 2024 season and was last active at the ATP Finals, where he was only eliminated in the semi-finals against Taylor Fritz, who was therefore in the final of the ATP Finals for the first time in his career, but lost to Sinner there.
