This Wednesday, the qualifiers from Wimbledon's qualifying rounds to the main draw were finalized, featuring several names looking to cause a surprise in the main draw. Although they are lower-ranked players, there are several significant names who earned a spot in the main draw, and with several matches already under their belt, they could be tricky opponents for top players to debut against.
There are as many as three tennis players who, in recent years, managed to position themselves in the Top 20, with Adrian Mannarino and Nicolas Jarry leading the big names who successfully navigated qualifying. Players coming from the qualifying rounds earned 30 ranking points and will have a few days of rest after three intense matches.
The world No. 125 experienced a dip in his level over the past year, forcing him to play in the tournament's qualifying. With two grass-court titles and three other finals reached, he is probably the player among the qualifiers who has displayed the best level of tennis on the surface in his career.
The Frenchman defeated Andrea Collarini and Nicolai Budkov in straight sets, before overcoming New Zealander Li Tu in four sets in the third qualifying round. Mannarino has had good appearances at Wimbledon, with 15 main draw wins in his career and three appearances in the fourth round. The 36-year-old reached his career-high ranking of world No. 17 in 2024, and will certainly have a good chance to seek points and return to the Top 100. A dangerous opponent for a potential first round.
Mannarino reached Wimbledon 4th round in 2013, 2017 and 2018
Nicolas Jarry
Like Mannarino, the Chilean has seen a dip in his level over the last year after reaching his career-high ranking as world No. 16 last year. After reaching the final of the Rome Open 2024, his results have been inconsistent, amidst physical problems, and he recently fell sharply to No. 145.
It's unusual to see the tall 29-year-old fighting from so far back, especially with strong performances in recent years. Already in 2023, he took a set from Carlos Alcaraz on his way to the title, and in Australian Open 2025 he also proved to be a difficult force to beat for Jannik Sinner. With three confidence-boosting wins under his belt, Jarry will surely be looking for a couple more victories in the main draw. He certainly has the ability, and he's definitely an opponent to avoid for the top seeds. The Chilean had no problems on an inspired path, defeating Pavel Kotov, Jozef Kovalik, and Lukas Klein without dropping a set.
Nikoloz Basilashvili
Another player looking to re-establish himself among ATP-level players, after a couple of years of the Georgian navigating between Challenger tournaments and injuries. The 2021 Indian Wells runner-up was for several seasons one of the most feared serves and forehands on the Tour, but the last couple of seasons, injuries have given him no respite.
Basilashvili has a couple of appearances in the third round of Wimbledon (2015, 2022) and proven experience in important tournaments, including 7 victories against Top 10 players, the last of them in the 2022 Halle Open on grass courts against No. 8 Andrey Rublev. The 30-year-old defeated Pablo Llamas Ruiz, Coleman Wong, and Juan Pablo Ficovich on his way through qualifying.
The lowest-ranked player we'll see in the Wimbledon main draw: world No. 719 and 21 years old, who received a wildcard from the organization to enter the qualifying, but certainly not many considered him a real contender to reach the main draw. Nevertheless, the young local capitalized on his opportunity with a couple of important victories along the way.
He defeated Terence Atmane (14th seed in qualifying), Alexis Galarneau, and Alexander Blocks (29th seed in qualifying), guaranteeing his first appearance in a Grand Slam main draw. A right-hander who, despite not being particularly tall, was consistent on serve. The Brit didn't even have previous appearances in ATP-level tournaments and is the lowest-ranked British man since 2017 in the Wimbledon main draw.
