The quarter-finals of the 2026 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell narrowed the draw to four players, with Arthur Fils, Rafael Jodar, Andrey Rublev and Hamad Medjedovic progressing to the semi-finals. The ATP 500 clay-court event in Barcelona featured a mix of seeded consistency and emerging runs, particularly from Jodar and Medjedovic, who extended their momentum through straight-sets victories.
With world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz already out of the tournament, the quarter-finals carried added significance in shaping an open draw. Fils removed second seed Lorenzo Musetti, while Jodar continued his rise with another win over Cameron Norrie. In the bottom half, Rublev advanced without dropping a set, and Medjedovic extended his run from qualifying, including a previous win over a Top 10 opponent.

Medjedovic backs up upset run to defeat Borges

Hamad Medjedovic def. Nuno Borges 7-6(6), 6-2

Hamad Medjedovic continued his run from qualifying with a straight-sets win over Nuno Borges. The first set was decided by narrow margins, with both players holding serve consistently before Medjedovic edged the tiebreak to take the lead. The Serbian saved a set point at 5-6, but ended up taking the first set to begin imposing his rhythm from that point onward.
The key shift occurred after the first set, where Medjedovic increased return pressure and converted multiple break opportunities. The second set moved away from equilibrium, with the Serbian establishing control through early breaks and maintaining that advantage to close the match.
An early break quickly put Medjedovic 3-0 ahead, and from that point he focused on holding his serve. Minutes later, Medjedovic secured the double break, and although Borges managed to recover one of them quickly, he could not improve his poor serving numbers in the second set — where he won just 44% of service points — and Medjedovic ended up securing the victory that takes him to his first ATP 500 semi-final. He will face Andrey Rublev.

Rublev maintains baseline efficiency to overcome Machac

Andrey Rublev def. Tomas Machac 6-4, 6-3

Andrey Rublev advanced with a straight-sets win over Tomas Machac, managing both sets through consistent baseline patterns. In the opening set, Machac secured an early break and moved ahead 2-0, but Rublev quickly broke back and levelled the score. The Russian secured three breaks and conceded his serve twice, in a fluctuating set where the former world No. 5 eventually took control and closed the set on his serve.
At the start of the second set, both players struggled to win points on return. Machac led 2-1 before completely losing control of the match. Rublev won 16 of the next 18 points and took four games in a row, including two consecutive breaks.
With a clear advantage for the Russian, Machac showed signs of resistance, recovering one of the breaks before struggling again on serve. Machac resisted giving up the match and saved up to four match points, but Rublev eventually secured the victory on his fifth opportunity, taking a third consecutive break.
Rublev’s consecutive straight-sets wins reinforce his consistency at ATP 500 level. He advances to face Hamad Medjedovic, maintaining his position as the most established player remaining in the draw.

Fils breaks Musetti resistance to reach semi-finals

Arthur Fils def. Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-4

Fils secured his place in the semi-finals with a straight-sets win over second seed Lorenzo Musetti. The opening phase featured tight service games, with Musetti saving two break points at 3-4 before Fils converted his third opportunity to take control of the set. From that point, Fils managed scoreboard pressure effectively to close the opener.
The match shifted through return efficiency rather than extended rallies. Fils increased pressure on Musetti’s service games, targeting second serves and shortening points to avoid rhythm changes. The decisive moment came with the break at 5-3 in the first set and another late break in the second (at 4-4), which removed any route back.
Fils converted key break opportunities while limiting exposure on serve, closing the match with a hold to love. The Frenchman has looked particularly strong in recent tournaments, and this was no exception. It is his ninth Top 10 victory and second of the season, and he continues a rapid rise in the ATP rankings. He now sits at No. 29 and will be the favourite against Rafael Jodar in the semi-finals, arriving with a 14-3 record over the last two months.

Jodar extends streak with straight-sets win over Norrie

Rafael Jodar def. Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-2

Rafael Jodar progressed to the semi-finals with a controlled win over Cameron Norrie, securing another straight-sets result. The opening set featured multiple breaks, with Jodar breaking three times despite conceding two breaks himself, establishing an early pattern of return-focused exchanges. Jodar took the lead at 4-2 and then held serve a couple of times to close the set 6-3.
The turning phase came through improved service stability and more efficient point construction in the second set. Jodar reduced volatility on serve and applied pressure in return games, breaking in the fifth and seventh games to separate from Norrie and close the match without extended resistance.
The Spaniard closed the match by winning the last five games in a row and recorded a total of five breaks across Norrie’s service games. It marks the first ATP 500 semi-final for the 19-year-old, who continues his run and reaches eight consecutive wins (after claiming the Grand Prix Hassan II title one week earlier) and 12 victories in his last 13 matches.
