Matteo Berrettini defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in his 2nd match at Thiem's 7 in Kitzbuhel to get to the lead in Group B.
After the first day at
Thiem's 7, both
Matteo Berrettini and
Roberto Bautista had a two-set victory. While the Italian defeated Dennis Novak, Roberto Bautista outplayed Karen Khachanov during the evening session.
Previously, Berrettini and Bautista met 4 times on the ATP Tour. The Italian was more successful when he triumphed 3 times and won the both matches that were played on the clay. He also played many more matches during the ATP Tour suspension as he competes at the
Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) and so he wanted to show his great form against the Spaniard.
And Berrettini also succeeded in doing so. Both players were really strong on their service games during the whole match. However, Berrettini was better at converting breakpoints. In the first set, both players had 2 opportunities to break their opponent, but it was only the Italian that used his to win the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Berrettini had 2 breakpoints again, however, his opponent didn't have a single opportunity to break the Italian as he maintained high-level on his service. He also stepped up his game on return to get 2 breaks in the set and win the match 6-4, 6-3. Berrettini now has 2 victories in the group stage and will face Karen Khachanov in the last match of the round-robin stage in Kitzbuhel.
