Roger Federer played an incredible match in the previous round. Yet it's almost certain he would like to avoid a similar outcome in this one. Fucsovics has been playing a spectacular tournament so far. He's been the underdog in most of the matches he played yet he won all of them.
And it was the Hungarian who would strike first in this one. At 3-3 in the first set, the Hungarian played a brilliant game to earn himself some breakpoints. He would convey the 3rd one and go up 4-3 after which he served his way to a 6-4 1st set victory. It was an all-around solid display from him, particularly when serving as he didn't allow any breakpoints to Roger.
Roger wasn't happy with his 1st performance which is why he came out super aggressive in the 1st one. It was that intensity that the Hungarian couldn't match. Roger had double the unforced errors the Hungarian had (10 to 5) but he also had 11 to 2 winners. A conservative approach to the game was severely punished and Marton lost the set 6-1.
Roger continued a similar aggressive style in the 3rd set trying to shorten to points as he wanted to avoid a consecutive marathon match. Fucsovics tried to match Roger's aggressiveness as he needed to change his approach which was demolished in the previous set. Unfortunately for the Hungarian, he made a lot of mistakes (13) while only hitting 4 winners. Roger, on the other hand, was better 11 winners to 9 errors and he took the set 6-2.
The 4th set started out similarly to the previous one. Roger was very focused breaking his opponents serve in the 1st game. Federer continued his spectacular play especially on the 1st serve which he was hitting at an unusually high rate. He would go on to break his opponents serve one more time before wrapping up the set 6-2.
In the end, it was a spectacular display from Federer particularly after losing the 1st set. He was aggressive, he was hitting his groundstrokes and his serve didn't let him down and he didn't look tired.
