Nick Kyrgios seems to be making a last gasp bid to try and play the grass court season in particular Wimbledon again after not playing competitively since January.
Kyrgios has been announced to play Halle this June, this of course points towards him as usual wanting nothing to do with playing on clay courts and he has not been seen since Brisbane in January only playing the doubles at the Australian Open.
The 30-year-old has struggled for years with a series of wrist and knee injuries and does not have a singles ranking at the moment so has to rely on wildcards. Given the fact he is a crowd puller still to this day, that of course is less of an issue and he can still get into tournaments mostly.
He reached the Wimbledon final in 2022 which was somewhat of a peak for the Australian but he floundered after reaching his career high with injuries taking over and more as the days go on that day at SW19 seems a very distant memory.
Signs that Kyrgios has not been at his best
He has played just seven singles matches between January 2023 and April 2026 and has often tried to come back before being blighted by injuries and often signs are there that he is not 100%. For example he played World Tennis League at the back end of last year and failed to play any singles and when he played singles exhibitions he often looked out of sorts and not great when it came down to fitness.
Likely this of course due to injury more than anything and as he tried to come back to action, he was soundly beaten by Aleksandar Kovacevic in January in Brisbane and once again being afforded a likely chance at the Australian Open, he wasn't ready. But it seems like Halle are putting their faith in the showman.
Nick Kyrgios continues his comeback to tennis at the 2025 Indian Wells Open
"Nick Kyrgios has been one of the most dazzling personalities in world tennis for years," Halle tournament organisers said in a statement as per
Reuters.
"The Australian is known for his exceptional playing style, characterised by one of the best serves on the tour, spectacular winners, and great creativity.
"At the same time, his emotional personality and charisma attract considerable attention far beyond the sport."
He has said previously that he would play in multiple grass tournaments and given Halle is the week before Wimbledon that chimes. It takes place between June 13-21. Kyrgios also is slated to return soon at the
UTS tournament in Rio.
