Carlos Alcaraz signs the camera after getting his 1st win at the ATP Finals over Andrey Rublev: “😊Grazie Torino”
After his tough loss in his ATP Finals debut, Carlos Alcaraz has managed to recover from the comeback suffered against Alexander Zverev on Wednesday by beating Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-2, to reach the semifinals in the third match of the group stage against Daniil Medvedev.
Alcaraz showed throughout the match at the ATP Finals much more confidence in his serve than he had against Zverev the other day. The key moment of the match came when, with 6-5 and serving to win the first set, a line judge called as bad a ball of Rublev that went in and that would have meant the 0-15, and that caused the Russian began to make fuss in the subsequent points that would take him completely out of the match.
The second set was practically a cakewalk for Alcaraz. The world number 2 would take advantage of how mentally out of the match his rival was, and would endorse a break first to maintain the advantage until 4-2, where he would return to break Rublev's serve to close the set 6-2 and win the match.
After the match, which was the first victory of Carlos Alcaraz's career in the ATP Finals, the Spaniard left the court but not before dedicating the victory to the entire Turin crowd in the typical signing on the camera. Next Friday, the Spaniard will have a key match against Medvedev to try to seal his qualification to the semifinals.
