Carlos Alcaraz faced Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round of Indian Wells, a player he has never been entirely comfortable against, losing their first three encounters but winning the last one, precisely at Tennis Paradise in the 2023 quarterfinals on his way to the title. And he did it again this time, with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
The first four games were evenly matched, with both players solid in their serves. With the score tied at 2-2, Carlos seized his opportunity to break Auger-Aliassime's serve, giving him the confidence to unleash his best game.
He finished strongly, winning the last five games of the first set. The only break point he had to save was when serving for the set, and he did it with an open serve and a trademark inverted parallel forehand characteristic of the world's number 2.
The second set was entirely controlled by Alcaraz. The Spanish player did not concede a single break point and closed the match on his opponent's serve, in the first opportunity he had.
Now, in the octaves, he will face Fabian Marozsan, who surprised him last year in his debut at the Rome Masters and comes in after eliminating Jurij Rodionov, Nicolás Jarry (the one who defeated Alcaraz in Buenos Aires), and Thiago Seyboth Wild, who had defeated Karen Khachanov.
