Sunday is here at the 2024 Indian Wells Open with the schedule now confirmed as the third round begins featuring Iga Swiatek, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner all in action.
Our preview looks ahead to the main talking points and matches to watch ahead of Sunday night as the first part of Indian Wells comes to a close with the first full week ahead.
For tennis fans who want bang for their buck when it comes to the Day Session, they certainly get that from the opening three games. In a row, Iga Swiatek, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are all involved and playing their third round games. Likely due to the European timezones and also the two players in the night session slot being American.
Swiatek begins with a revenge mission in mind. After losing to Linda Noskova at the Australian Open early, she will look for an emphatic retort. She opens up Stadium 1 and is followed by two of the matches of the day on the men's side as Carlos Alcaraz faces Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner will take on Jan-Lennard Struff. Two quality contests on paper to continue the day.
Stadium 1 concludes with former World No.1, Caroline Wozniacki taking on American ace Katie Volynets who dumped out Ons Jabeur last round. Then it is the turn of a certain Ben Shelton who packed the stadium out in his last game and will aim to do so again towards the night when he faces Francisco Cerundolo.
It is mostly doubles on Sunday, but there are some standouts not on Stadium 1 as Anna Kalinskaya again will face Jasmine Paolini. The former took their most pivotal meeting at the Grand Slam, but blinked in the Dubai final allowing the Italian to win her biggest title to date. Both superb players to watch and perhaps the WTA game of the day.
They follow Frances Tiafoe and Stefanos Tsitsipas who kick off proceedings on Stadium 2. Two players on the slide of sorts who will hope to rekindle their form this week. Other matches feature Angelique Kerber facing Veronika Kudermetova, Alexander Zverev takes on Tallon Griekspoor while elsewhere Alexander Bublik faces Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev is in action and so are Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula in doubles.
