Carlos Alcaraz trailed Brooksby 0-3 in the 3rd et but he was able to fight back and secure the victory in straight sets 6-3 6-3 6-3.
The scoreline indicates a fairly comfortable win for Alcaraz and for the most part it really was. He came in with a pretty good plan of how to exploit his weaknesses of Brooksby and he did. He didn't allow the American to drag him into many long rallies as Alcaraz attacked at every chance.
Pretty early on Alcaraz accumulated more winners than Brooksby and he never let go of that advantage. He had 16 in the opening set compared to Brooksby's three. The American was even worse in the 2nd set as he had only one. He had 13 unforced errors while Alcaraz had 13 winners and 13 unforced errors.
The 3rd set started with Brooksby taking a lot more risks and being quite a bit of more aggressive which worked initially. He caught Alcaraz completely off guard as the Spaniard toned down his own level a little bit and he fell behind 0-3.
Realizing what was going on, he was able to bring one back which shook Brooksby and gave Carlitos more confidence. He would make it 3-3 and then close it out with 6-3 winning six games in a row. The goal was to take the ball early and defeat Brooksby whcih he was able to do behind 43 winners.
