A tournament which started it all for
Carlos Alcaraz is the
Rio Open and the Golden Swing will receive a welcome boost in 2024 as between 17-25 February, he will play.
Alcaraz won his first ever ATP match at the tournament back in 2020. Ranked 406th and a mere future promise back then, he saw off Albert Ramos-Vinolas and the hype began.
In 2022, he won the Rio Open and then followed that up with the US Open and becoming World Number One so a tournament which has become a benchmark for future success for the Spaniard.
“I am very happy to play the Rio Open in 2024. The tournament is special for me. It was where I won my first ATP match and where I won my first ATP 500. I have a special relationship with the fans, I'm excited to be in Rio again,” said Alcaraz.
"Alcaraz is part of our history, just like several other names that emerged on the circuit after good campaigns at the Rio Open. We had the privilege of seeing him play an ATP Tournament for the first time and in the following edition win his first ATP 500. We are watching the rise of what could become one of the best players of all time and it is a huge satisfaction that Rio is another chapter in this success story. Carlitos is the biggest name in the tennis world and in Rio he will certainly have the support of fans who quickly created a special connection with him,” said Luiz Carvalho, Tournament Director of the Rio Open.
