The
China Open is set to conclude on the men's side on Wednesday morning with the final set to see
Jannik Sinner and
Daniil Medvedev face off again in a final also seen earlier this year in Miami.
At that tournament, Medvedev cruised past a fatigued Sinner in the final in Miami and now they will face off in an ATP 500 final. But will the tables be turned this time.
Route to the Final - Jannik Sinner
The Italian ace has endured a tough route through especially after he had an injury scare in his opener when he faced off against Dan Evans.
Evans mocked his injury, but it was Sinner who had the last laugh as he could seal the title in Beijing. He went on from there to see off Yoshihito Nishioka, Grigor Dimitrov and then Carlos Alcaraz.
The Spaniard seems to have a nightmare when it comes to his rival and the sixth seed this week thrashed him to reach this point.
If he wins this week, it would be a third title of the year in what has been his fifth final overall. He last won against Alex de Minaur in Montreal earlier this Summer.
Route to the Final - Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev on the last visit to China of which have been few and far between due to COVID-19 in particular won the Shanghai Masters which he will defend later this week.
But he started with a tough run through on paper that he managed to navigate superbly. He defeated Tommy Paul with ease followed by an in-form player in Alex de Minaur. He then took out a spoiler player of sorts in Ugo Humbert before a devastatingly good win against Alexander Zverev.
It would be a 21st career title for Medvedev and a sixth of the season with two final defeats including the US Open in an otherwise stellar season.
Head to Head as Medvedev holds flawless record
If the Head to Head record continues, it will be an easy win for Daniil Medvedev on the cards. He has won all six of their previous meetings.
Seeing off Sinner last in Miami, it was also a hilarious one as Sinner mocked Medvedev's lack of clay court prowess. The irony was he followed that up by having an impressive time on a woeful surface otherwise. But as Sinner's woes continued, he will look to turn the tables this time.
"First of all, Congrats Daniil, not only for this tournament but also the last five, minimum final, and playing incredible tennis. Congrats to you and obviously your team for an incredible job. Now clay season starts, let's see how you do there, but I wish you all the best," Sinner said.
"It's a pity it is clay season next up, but I am going to try. I am really happy with my results so far but it is not over," the Russian said.
