Alcaraz is a freak
Nick Kyrgios was amazed by Carlos Alcaraz's incredible victory over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.
The highly anticipated final between the Spanish and Serbian players promised to be a historic match, as Djokovic was the overwhelming favorite as a 7-time Wimbledon champion, winning the last four consecutive editions and not losing on the Centre Court since the 2013 final against Andy Murray.
Alcaraz arrived at SW19 with limited experience on grass, but as the championship progressed, he showcased his best repertoire, and in the final, he displayed his top-level tennis to end Djokovic's dominance on the London grass.
Despite a challenging first set in which Djokovic took the lead, and the difference in level between the two players seemed evident, Alcaraz took control of the match. Nick Kyrgios, who was closely watching the game, tweeted,
Alcaraz is a freak
If some how…. Like some how if Novak can turn this around, I’m convinced he is not human.
Kyrgios acknowledged that he hadn't watched a complete tennis match in a long time and thanked Djokovic and Alcaraz for the incredible performance they put on at the All England Club.
Haven’t watched a whole tennis match in a long time haha THANKYOU @DjokerNole & @carlosalcaraz for putting on that incredible performance. Congratulations to you both 👑🙏🏽
The Australian player is familiar with playing at Wimbledon, one of his favorite tournaments, where he reached the final last year, but fell to none other than Novak Djokovic.
In 2022, Kyrgios had an impressive run at Wimbledon, defeating local player Paul Jubb, Filip Krajinovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Brandon Nakashima, and Christian Garin on his way to the semifinals. There, he was set to face Rafael Nadal, who had an outstanding record of 19-0 in Grand Slam matches that year.
However, Nadal was forced to withdraw due to an injury, granting Kyrgios a spot in the final. In the 2022 final, Kyrgios had a strong start, winning the first set, but Djokovic mounted a comeback and ultimately defeated Kyrgios 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6.
