Taylor Fritz responded angrily to a fan during a Twitch stream after they asked if he was happy about losing at Wimbledon.
The 24-year-old tennis player is currently the highest-ranked American in the ATP ranking as world No. 9, just one place above Frances Tiafoe, who is ranked world No. 10.
Fritz did not have a good performance at Wimbledon, as despite being the 9th seed, he lost in the second round to world No. 59 Mikael Ymer. The former Indian Wells champion survived the first round against Yannick Hanfmann with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, but faced a setback against the Swedish player Ymer after being up by 2 sets to 0 and was eliminated with a score of 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
During a Twitch stream while playing video games, a user asked Fritz if he was happy with his early elimination at SW19:
“'Are you glad you lost Wimbledon?' he commented.
“Get banned honestly, get banned,” Fritz respond him.
‘Happy I lost,’ get the f*** up of here,” world No. 9 added.
“There’s nothing in the world I’d rather be right now than me at Wimbledon, there’s literally nothing in the whole world I’d rather wanted than me playing Wimbledon right now,” claimed Fritz.
Fritz's poor performance at Wimbledon brought him close to losing the top spot among male American tennis players. Frances Tiafoe had the opportunity to surpass Fritz if he reached the quarterfinals, but he fell in the third round against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov with a score of 2-6, 3-6, 6-2.
Against all odds, the best North American at Wimbledon was Christopher Eubanks, who had an entry ranking of 75, meaning that 11 players from his country entered the tournament with a better position.
Fritz will have the chance to earn points next week at the Atlanta Open, where he is the first seed in a draw with only five players in the top 30, and none of them in the top 15.
The second seed in the tournament is Alex de Minaur, a two-time champion who defeated Fritz in the final in 2019
