Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz had achieved yet another
milestone after his recent triumph at the
Australian Open.
The 20-year-old is often regarded as one of the most
highly-rated young players currently playing in the men’s singles category
along with Italy’s Jannik Sinner and America’s Ben Shelton.
Alcaraz is having a great time on the court in the first
Grand Slam of the year where he defeated China’s Shang Juncheng after he was walked
out from the round of 32 contest with a score of 6-1, 6-1 and 1-0.
With that win, the current world number two became the
youngest player in the history of tennis in the Open era to cement his place in
the fourth round of a Grand Slam on seven consecutive occasions. Previously,
that record was held by legendary Swedish player and the former world number
one Bjorn Borg who ended his illustrious career after winning 11 Grand Slam
titles.
Interestingly, this is the first time when Alcaraz has
managed to book his place in the fourth round or beyond while playing at the Australian
Open. The two-time Grand Slam winner will now face Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic for
a place in the quarterfinal of the mega-event on Monday.
