Taylor Fritz has reached his maiden
Australian Open Quarter-Final after a superb 7-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas on John Cain Arena on Sunday morning, but that victory also had a few caveats to it as was confirmed post match.
Fritz' long-time girlfriend Morgan Riddle said that she would eat a full jar of Vegemite on Instagram Live if her boyfriend defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas. Perhaps a lack of confidence that he could overcome the Greek, but this seemingly spurred him on as he was given a jar of Vegemite on the court after his win.
Fritz himself though won't be taking part but said on court that he will make sure it happens, while RIddle in the stands didn't seem too happy about having to go through with the bet.
"I told them I was going to win," he said. "My girlfriend (Morgan Riddle) said I was too confident going into the match."
"Yeah, this is a big jar (but a bet's a bet)," he said as he looked up to her with a shrug of his shoulders. Riddle was then seen indicating that she wanted to eat a smaller jar than that. "I won't be partaking, but I'll make sure it happens... I wasn't the biggest fan," he joked in a quote that is sacrilege to the Australian people. In reality, Riddle should've done it before his next match against Novak Djokovic who he holds an 8-0 H2H deficit against and has barely won a set in previous matches.
