Carlos Alcaraz capped off a tremendous week in Miami with another superb effort that left Ruud helpless in the final as the Spaniard cruised 7-5 6-4.
Similar to his match against Kecmanovic in the semifinal, ALcaraz once again opened the match by losing his serve. It seemed like he was a bit nervous as he missed some forehands he usually hits rather easily. Ruud comfortably took the 3-0 lead and held it until 4-2 when Alcaraz finally found a breakthrough. The Spaniard slowly settled into the match and once he did it was practically game over.
The forehand is his main weapon and he certainly knew how to use it to attack Ruud. The Norwegian kept himself in rallies for the most part but Alcaraz would always find another angle and hit a winner that would leave everyone but himself speechless. He pulled the break back and eventually added another one to take a lead and finish off the set with 7-5.
He won four games to finish off the first set and he opened the second one with another break. It was a lengthy game that saw Ruud save two break points before Alcaraz finally found a breakthrough. He was simply too god and Ruud could not produce some magic to outhit Alcaraz. He tried a couple of things but nothing really worked.
Alcaraz went up 3-0 with a double break but Ruud pullet out some mastery to pull one back. Alcaraz did not panic as he was able to win his service game to take a 4-2 lead. From there he stayed focused and finished of the job with 6-4.
