Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz continues to add accolades to his already distinguished career, and the Spaniard will have another record to brag over coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after the youngster's victory at the ABN AMRO Open.
The former World No.1 made his debut at the Rotterdam event this year, seeking his first indoor hard court title. Alcaraz powered his way through to the final, where he defeated a game Alex de Minaur in three sets to win his 17th career ATP title.
Although Ferrero was unable to accompany his mentee to the ATP 500 event, Alcaraz had secondary coach Samuel Lopez in his coaching box. Lopez's presence seemed to be sufficient, as Alcaraz was able to overcome the opposition, becoming the first Spaniard to win the Rotterdam title.
By virtue of his victory, Alcaraz claims a 17th career ATP title, at just 21 years of age. This puts him one title ahead of coach Ferrero, who was also a World No.1 but had only 16 titles by the time his career came to an end. With Alcaraz still in his early twenties, you can expect the reigning Wimbledon champion to add several more titles to his trophy cabinet.
Alcaraz and Ferrero have been working together since 2019. The duo have won five of the same titles, with the French Open being the only Grand Slam title Ferrero has to his name.
It means so much to me to win in Rotterdam! 🏆 It has been a very special week! 🔝 Thank you for the support from day one! ❤️ Congratulations @alexdeminaur for the tournament and a tremendous battle today in the final! 🤝🏻🔥
