Spain’s young sensation Carlos
Alcaraz is set to take a week-long break ahead of the ATP Finals.
The 20-year-old is one of the most
highly-rated players in the men’s tennis circuit alongside Italy’s Jannik Sinner
and America’s Ben Shelton.
According to Spanish Daily Marca,
Alcaraz will be taking a one-week-long break after having a disappointing
outing in the Shanghai Masters.
The current world number two lost
to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 of the ongoing ATP 1000 event
with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Alcaraz became the talk of the
town after winning Wimbledon earlier this year where he defeated Serbia’s
legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in a five-set thrilling final with a score
of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
It was the second major title for
the Murcia-born who also won the US Open in 2022 after beating Norway’s Casper
Ruud in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3.
Other than winning Wimbledon,
Alcaraz also reached the semifinal of the French Open — where he lost to
Djokovic with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 — and the US Open where he came
second-best against current world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev with a
score of 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
