Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz is set to take part
in the
Monte-Carlo Masters opener, despite media reports suggesting otherwise.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently
playing in the circuit alongside Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
Some media reports suggested that Alcaraz might opt to
withdraw from the ongoing mega-event in Monte-Carlo largely because of a
forearm injury. However, as per tennis journalist and YouTuber Jose Moron, the
current world number three is set to take part in the event.
Moron revealed that while Alcaraz has discomfort in his forearm,
it is because of this reason his coaching staff has decided to give an extended
rest before his opening round clash on Wednesday. The two-time Grand Slam
winner is set to face off against Canda’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of
32. Both players have faced off five times in the past and interestingly, it is the
current world number 35 who has an advantage with three wins compared to two
victories of Alcaraz.
Alcaraz is coming into the Monte-Carlo Masters after having
a rather disappointing outing in the recently concluded Miami Open where he was
knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in
straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
