The
Swiss Open Gstaad is taking place this week and
Stefanos Tsitsipas in particular will play today in Switzerland but both him and
Casper Ruud took part in a brilliant way to open the tournament on social media.
The two tennis stars used miniature equipment and played volleys across the street from their hotel balconies as a lighthearted promotional activity before the tournament began.
The stunt took place at their accommodations during the Swiss Open in Gstaad. They used mini-rackets and a foam ball to volley back and forth from their separate hotel baclonies.
It served as a playful warm-up and behind-the-scenes content for the ATP event. It was smiling aplenty as they clearly didn't want to wait for the action to start. As alluded to Tsitsipas will be playing later today anyway, while Ruud is set to start his campaign tomorrow.
He spoke at Wimbledon about rediscovering his love for the game. He recently ditched his father Apostolos as of late again as their partnership concluded and he will look to continue looking for that love of tennis again.
“I'm missing the way I have been playing the last couple of years and today, while I was on the court, I was thinking of the great fights that I have had previously at Wimbledon, playing some years back,” Tsitsipas said after his straight-sets win over Hugo Gaston on Monday.
“Regardless of the result, I always felt like I was coming into this tournament with a lot of determination, with a lot of love for the grass, and always played my best that I knew at the time.”
“My love for the game. I love this game,” Tsitsipas added when asked about what keeps him going. “I have had some rough moments through this game with some injuries that I would have never seen coming. I never imagined as a small, little kid that I would be going through life-changing injuries, to be honest, injuries that made me suffer a lot.
“I had to have surgeries because of those injuries. I was hospitalised a few times. It's all part of the process. I have accepted I'm not the only one. Other people have gone through the same. I lost my path and route at a certain moment in the past.”
