Several tennis stars have been critical of the manner in which they were portrayed in the Netflix docuseries, Break Point, with
Casper Ruud being the latest to speak out.
Break Point was designed to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at players as they navigated life on tour, similar to other Netflix shows like Drive to Survive, which focuses on the world of F1 racing. However, the tennis version failed to live up to it's inspiration, and it was announced that Netflix would be canceling Break point after just two seasons.
Ruud not a fan of filming schedule, calls it time-consuming
The Norwegian star was featured in the docuseries, and recently revealed he found it difficult to incorporate shooting scenes to his already strenuous ATP schedule.
"It was too much about — I understand that you should try to get to know the other players too much, but it just demanded too much of my time, because they want you to do this and they want to do this, and everything was a little staged in my eyes,” Ruud said at
Indian Wells. “You have to kind of invite them to do these things if you want more screen time. That’s not me."
Ruud is not the only player to openly criticize the show, with WTA World No.1 Iga Swiatek stating she did not appreciate her portrayal on the docuseries. However, Danish star Holger Rune seemed to approve of the show, stating he was happy with his role and welcomed any venture that would put the spotlight on tennis.
